Our learning environment

We keep our group sizes small no matter how many teachers we have to encourage quality interaction between our tamariki and our kaiako. Our qualified kaiako are enthusiastic and well prepared to get the day rolling through respectful and responsive interactions and most importantly, have fun.

Our centre unfolds in the middle of a beautiful narrative with a stream, bushwalk and a reserve surrounding us. As much as we would want children to go outside to explore nature, we also believe in bringing nature inside to our play-based learning plan. This is strongly underpinned by the principles of the curiosity approach. We are passionate about using authentic, quality, open-ended resources that provoke the interest of the child, and also extend thought, investigation and discovery. Our daily programme schedule offers plenty of time for physical activity, regular quiet times, group and individual play activities, socialising, negotiating, nutritious meals, art and craft and regular free play time.

We strongly encourage and invite whānau involvement and feedback to understand their aspirations and the story of their child’s learning journey. We ensure that we are aware of our tamariki’s sleep, eating and cultural philosophies and strive to understand how we could create a “home away from home” for them. We believe this is important to foster a sense of belonging within our setting. And therefore, we focus on our teacher well-being and the team atmosphere so that it all flows into the needs, interests, physical and emotional well-being of our tamariki and our whānau becomes the priority every day and every minute. Our tamariki are the heart of everything we have done, are doing and will do!
